Pongal is a harvest festival dating back to 200 BC - the Tamil equivalent of Thanksgiving celebrated by Tamils World wide thanking the Sun for giving life and energy . In an agriculture based civilization the harvest plays an important part for the survival of mankind . The farmer cultivating his land depends on cattle, timely rain and the Sun. Once a year, he expresses his gratitude to the SUN for being the source of life and energy to all living beings viz. humanity,animal and plant life.
